Crypto's dollar layer kept signing institutions while its coins slipped: Ripple tied its RLUSD stablecoin to announcements with Robinhood, C2FO and BNY [1][2][3] on a day when a Whale Alert post had Ether falling toward $2,300 [4] and Solana slipping under $100 [5].
The dollar layer did the building
Ripple said it is expanding its partnership with Robinhood across RLUSD, Ripple Prime and Ripple Treasury, "bringing together stablecoins, prime brokerage and treasury management" for both customer-facing services and core operations [1]. Ripple also announced two trade-finance moves. One expanded its collaboration with BNY across custody and tokenized trade finance on the XRP Ledger [3]. The other brought C2FO's Instant Pay financing and settlement onto the XRP Ledger, using RLUSD so that suppliers receive funds in seconds [2].
The on-chain dollar supply moved the same way. Whale Alert reported 250,000,000 USDC minted at the USDC Treasury at 18:36 UTC [6], and another 250,000,000 USDC minted at 23:23 UTC [7]. Within minutes of each other in the early evening, 142,100,000 USDT and 139,699,700 USDT moved from unknown wallets to Bitfinex [8][9]. Aave bracketed the day. An unknown wallet moved 134,055,285 USDC into the protocol just after midnight UTC [10], and 134,068,978 USDC left Aave for an unidentified whale at 23:35 UTC [11].
The stablecoin build-out reached DeFi too. Curve DAO's account promoted a new market that lets users borrow USG against crvUSD/frxUSD LP tokens, calling it "more liquidity and more earnings for Curve DAO" [12].
The coins carried the selling
The Whale Alert post on Ether pointed to ETF outflows and early-investor selling [4]. The Solana post tied the drop below $100 to whale wallets sending $49M of SOL to exchanges [5]. Bitcoin held near $80,000. Bitget's daily snapshot had it around $80,069.53, close to an estimated treasury-company cost of $80,200 [13]. Bitcoin's official account posted $79,825.50 [14].
The calendar is doing some of the work. Coinbase Markets reported that Bitcoin's 1-week at-the-money implied volatility rose from 31.49% to 35.93% between 21 and 27 October. That briefly overtook the 1-month reading near 35.77%, ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision on Wednesday and Friday's October options expiry [15]. The Fed's October meeting had begun without a decision when Bitget published its snapshot [13].
The analysts and the positioning
Lark Davis challenged Jason Calacanis's bearish Bitcoin forecast. He also noted that Bitcoin sits below its 50-day EMA and named the 200-day EMA near $76,500 as a key level [16]. Trader Mayne argued that growing institutional interest could make the current bear market shorter and less severe, pointing to BlackRock's upcoming buffer ETF [17]. On Davis's channel, Hashdex's Samir described Bitcoin as a volatile risk asset today that could become a store of value over time [18]. Glassnode added that Bitcoin's win-rate against the S&P 500 crossed 50% on 20 October [19].
The positioning data took the other side. Glassnode reported that Hyperliquid's large holders flipped from net long to net short on Bitcoin for the first time since March [20]. Nansen reported that every tracked group held net-short positions in an ANT-USDC perpetual tied to Anthropic's IPO filing. That contract opened near $138 and was trading around $114 [21].
Separately, CredibleCrypto quoted a WatcherGuru post from the day before reporting that Ripple "officially receives full US regulatory approval to operate as a national trust bank". Replying to a follower, CredibleCrypto wrote: "Told people it's not ready to zerp yet, they don't listen though." [22]
The venues added stocks and trimmed leverage
Several exchanges added equity products. Bybit listed perpetuals on the iShares MSCI Indonesia ETF, EQT and STMicroelectronics with a zero maker fee [23]. Bitget listed Hon Hai and MediaTek Taiwan stock perpetuals [24]. OKX said Anthropic pre-IPO trading was live, with its own graphic stating these are "leveraged derivatives, not shares" [25]. Kraken's parent Payward plans CFTC-regulated HIP-3 perpetual futures for US users on Hyperliquid, and Mayne called it "Huge." [26]
Binance moved the other way on crypto pairs. It will remove twelve BTC-quoted spot pairs, including AAVE/BTC, ATOM/BTC and TAO/BTC, at 03:00 UTC on 30 October [27]. It will also lower maximum leverage on select isolated-margin pairs from 10x to 5x from 10 November, citing risk management [28].
Regulators
The CFTC sued Utah to block state enforcement that could undermine federal jurisdiction over CFTC-registered markets [29]. It also announced that the Commitments of Traders report will be published semiweekly [30]. The SEC's Division of Trading and Markets launched an Innovation Exemption website with FAQs and a list of TSV notice submitters [31].
